Cymachron is a photographic cymatics series that introduces the dimension of time to trace the path of a single point of light across the surfaces of water to show how sound vibrations affect this movement. Each photograph is captured for one full second so that each image would share this same time variable. This was not only an aesthetic choice, but also a means of showing the full cycle of motion and how it shifts over time, revealing more of the story within a single photograph than a fraction of a second ever could. The distinct geometric and symmetrical properties displayed in each photo are the result of several different variables, carefully balanced and captured to show the periodic motion from each frequency. The full series includes photographs which capture periodic, and non-periodic motion.
