VAST is an immersive audio + visual performance created and performed by Synthestruct (Ginger Leigh) at ARTECHOUSE DC on October 29th and 30th, 2019.
VAST explores new technologies for composing live elements through gesture and movement. Using sensor-enabled gloves (Mi.Mu gloves) and a custom interface that allows me to communicate with my computer remotely, I am able to compose the live elements from a position among the audience, and experience the immersive sound and visuals exactly as the audience is experiencing them. I programmed all of the sound and visuals to respond to the different gestures and movements, so that I can make decisions about how to present the live elements in that moment, and each show is entirely unique. VAST thematically explores the mathematics of sound through a series of sound objects and oscillations. Each sound object embodies the oscillations in different ways, to present to the audience many different ways of visually expressing the characteristics of the oscillations.
